Not sure if silence is acceptance or he is thinking we are full of it.  At least Miss Stephanie teaches him some manners.

Zach likes smoke bombs, and poppers. The rest of the fireworks - not so much.

Grandpa made Zach a map to Leech Lake. It had three pages and looked like a book.  It had the stinky pig farm area, airplanes on sticks and the potato farm among other landmarks.  Zach didn't quite understand it at first, but when we got in the car he really liked it -- even if it was upside down.

I took Zach to the Legacy Park Community Center pool tonight. It has a large area for little kids with slides, fountains, sprays and other water games. He is at a stage where he does not like anything that is loud. The Legacy Pool was very loud. He held his hands over his ears. We were able to find a table on the quieter lap swim side. I got in the water and showed him some tricks. He giggled, and decided to try the first step.  After a while, he was ready to try the kids area. I have never heard him squeal so much. He was so excited. He loved the frog head with the pink tongue slide. I caught him the first couple trips down, then he did the full splash in the water.  We'll have to go back soon.

We tried the Powell Garden's fireworks last night. Even with the gun mufflers on, he did not like the loud bangs. We left pretty much right away, but we got there late and didn't have to pay, so that worked out pretty good. We may try the Lee's Summit fireworks from the car, so he can see that they are pretty, but it is going to take some convincing to get me to take him to an outdoor display again next year.

Also, it is hotter than hell here.

Just returned from a week on Leech Lake with Mom, Dad, Eric, Shelley, Nate and Abby, Mike and Zach. I miss everyone a lot now. I heard a guy talking in the Owatonna Bass Pro that sounded like Eric, and that was sort of sad.  Abby, Nate and Zach are thick as thieves. They play like they see each other every day. Hopefully we’ll be able to meet in Des Moines sooner than the fall, but I know that will be hard.  The cats were glad to see us. Apparently we had a worm family move in and they ate my entire tomato plant. It was so healthy with zillions of blooms and little baby tomatoes. I told Mike I was going to microwave them, then I felt bad, but I think he may have stabbed them. I always knew he was kind of a Mexican.  Work has gone well this week at St. Mary’s. Budget is a big problem for the hospital. Rumors are everywhere that we have been bought by Shawnee Mission Hospital, which I have always known to be a nice hospital. It is not as bad a place as I thought it was in the beginning, but I am still excited for my interview tomorrow at big budget KU for the “wound team.” I am just going to let fate be my guide. If the wound team doesn’t work out, I’ll decide what to do at that point.
